Well, That Was Not Fun 3

The election is finally over and the results are in, most of them anyway. Some states will probably be counting and recounting for months. The bottom line is that we are a divided country. Of course, we knew this, but last night proved it yet again. Millions of people went to their voting places and picked their candidates and issues of choice.

From my perspective, morality and conservative views lost. At least half of the nation would either agree or disagree with me depending on their point of view. Incumbents won and lost. Marriage issues won and lost. Even legalizing drugs won in some states. America, as has been stated by many over the last few years, is a post-Christian, divided nation.

That truth does not change the facts of the Scripture or affect my faith. Perhaps my religious freedoms and finances, but my faith remains intact. My King is still THE King no matter who sits in temporary political power. God raises up and God removes, and has since the beginning of time. God has a plan and no man, shadow government, members of the Illuminati, or thugs from the mafia (or any other conspiracy theory) will change it. All authority comes from THE Authority and it is temporal in nature. My God reigns in the affairs of man, even in political elections. The devil did not sneak someone or something over on God.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we need to have a different perspective. Our citizenship is in heaven. We are only temporary residents on this globe and our real home is elsewhere. Our freedom is in Christ and not determined by those who sit in political power. Detrimental laws will be passed, sinful behavior will be called normal and acceptable, but God will still rule and ultimately judge based on His word.

No writer of the New Testament enjoyed the political freedoms we have. Instead, they lived under complete, authoritarian despot conquers. Yet, the Gospel spread and grew. Our hope is in the Good News of Jesus Christ not in politics and human laws. What our nation needs is Light from the Son. The real battle is not won or lost in the legislators or in the halls of congress, but in the hearts of mankind.

After months of ads, endless campaigns, annoying phone calls, and debates, we now can move on until the next election cycle. We know what will happen in politics over the next two years. We know that lawlessness will attempt to expand and sin will abound. We also know the solution is in Christ to both of these problems. You cannot make people righteous by enacting conservative laws. Righteousness comes from knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Our mission has not changed. Our God has not lost any power or His plan has not been thwarted somehow. In fact, His plan is right on His schedule. Our directive from heaven has not changed – Go and make disciples. Preach the Good News of Jesus Christ to everyone, everywhere. Live our lives to the glory of our Father. Seek Him first and the furtherance of His Kingdom. Give thanks in everything. Rejoice always. Endure to the end. Be strong in the power of His grace and might. Use our talents for the Kingdom. Be good stewards of our time and money. None of these has changed since yesterday.

I voted and will continue to pray that the Lord will have mercy on our country of earthly residence. However, I know that my real home is elsewhere and I am on the pilgrims path to it. God has called His children to be a light in a dark world. Perhaps ours just got a bit darker so the light can be seen clearer.

Thank you for pointing out, “Live our lives to the glory of our Father. Seek Him first and the furtherance of His Kingdom. Give thanks in everything. Rejoice always. Endure to the end. Be strong in the power of His grace and might. Use our talents for the Kingdom. Be good stewards of our time and money. None of these has changed since yesterday.”

I am so sick and tired of the whole mess. Yes, the outlook for financial freedom, religious freedom, etc… is bleak. Yes, our children and grandchildren will have a very HARD time, but I don’t feel we must spend the remainder of our lives with a doom and gloom attitude every day and be all consumed with how horrible the future is. The future of THIS life may be dark, but it’s not our ultimate destination or future. So THANK YOU for pointing this out!

Most think that this refers to God not giving His approval, as in the sense of of approbation, and not in the sense of His knowledge. If God knows everything, then the prophet is simply saying that they didn’t bother to ask for official approval of their actions. I would tend to concur with that line of thinking regarding Hosea’s comments.
